I am an artist from New York area, currently living in New Jersey. I’ve enjoyed an active career as an illustrator and graphics artist in the publishing field for the past 20 years. I did enjoy my career as an illustrator especially since my work had much to do with educational programs. But in the back of my mind, I always knew that I needed to get back to the fundamentals of painting from life and paint for myself to grow as an artist. It was all about "Painting What I See" not what I know, and not what someone else showed me.
I started my blog to encourage myself to paint for myself and have the progress documented. By "Painting What I See," I endeavor to address two important issues at the same time. One is the technical aspect of following the footsteps of the 19th Century masters, mainly naturalists, realists, and tonalists who perfected the impressionistic vision by close association with impressionists.
The other is not as easy to define but in essence has to do with "seeing beyond the surface." To understand the soul and history of the subjects and to put them on a canvas the way I see them.
